If you’re a fan of Factor Meals, you may be wondering if it’s possible to freeze their pre-made meals and how you can store them long-term.
Maybe you’re looking to stock up on some of your favorites or you’re going out of town and want to make sure your meals don’t go to waste.
Having been a Factor Meals customer for years now, I’ve figured out a few methods for storing these meals that I want to share with you in this article.
Keep reading to learn the best way to store Factor Meals long-term and whether or not freezing is a good option for the long term.
The Importance Of Storing Factor Meals Correctly
Before we jump into how to store Factor Meals and if freezing is the best long-term option, it’s essential to understand the importance of storing these meals properly.
Properly storing your Factor Meals is crucial to maintain their quality and freshness. When you receive your meals, it’s important to store them in a way that keeps them safe from bacterial growth and other contaminants. This not only ensures that your meals are safe to eat, but also helps preserve their flavor.
Elements like temperature, humidity, and exposure to air can all affect the quality and shelf life of your meals. According to the USDA, perishable foods like meat, poultry, and dairy products should be kept at a temperature of 40°F or below to prevent bacterial growth and spoilage. This means storing your Factor Meals in the fridge as soon as possible after delivery.
It’s vital to store your Factor Meals properly within the fridge or freezer. Do not puncture or open the meals from the meal tray that they come in, as this will expose the meal to any air and moisture within your refrigerator.
Can You Freeze Factor Meals?

Although Factor Meals doesn’t recommend it, the short answer is yes, you can freeze their meals. However, improper freezing can result in spoilage, loss of flavor, and freezer burn.
It’s important to note that each package of Factor Meals comes with a label stating “Keep Refrigerated. Intended to be enjoyed fresh; freezing not recommended.”
Despite this, they don’t explicitly prohibit freezing. In the following section, I will share my personal experience and provide tips on the best way to freeze Factor Meals.
How To Properly Freeze Factor Meals

If you’ve decided to freeze your Factor Meals, it’s important to do so properly to ensure they maintain their flavor, texture, and nutritional value. Here are some tips I’ve figured out on how to properly freeze Factor Meals..
- Freeze your meals as soon as possible: The longer your meals sit in the fridge, the greater the chance they’ll lose flavor and quality. Therefore, it’s best to freeze them as soon as you receive them.
- Use the right containers: Freezing your meals in the right containers can help prevent freezer burn and maintain their quality. I like to transfer the meals from their meal trays to airtight containers or freezer bags designed for freezing. If you have a vacuum sealer, I recommend using it to store the meals as it will lock out any air and moisture (which can cause freezer burn). This is the one I use.
- Remove excess air: If you’re using freezer bags, make sure to remove excess air before sealing the bag. This will help prevent freezer burn and maintain the freshness of your meals.
- Label your meals: Since you’ll be taking the meals out of the packaging they came in, make sure to label them with the name of the dish and the date you froze it. This will help you keep track of how long the meals have been frozen.
- Freeze them flat: Laying your meals flat in the freezer will help them freeze faster and prevent them from sticking together.
When it’s time to eat your frozen Factor meals, it’s important to thaw them properly. You can either thaw them in the fridge overnight or use the defrost setting on your microwave. Avoid thawing them at room temperature, as this can promote bacterial growth and cause spoilage.
Food Box HQ Note: While Factor’s meals may be freezable it’s important to note that there may be some items on their menu that are not meant to be frozen. For example, I do not recommend freezing any of the prepackaged snacks that Factor offers. This website lists out what foods do not freeze well.
Final Thoughts

While Factor Meals does not recommend freezing their meals, it is possible to do so if done properly.
Freezing can be a great option for those who want to extend the shelf life of their meals and have them available when they need them. However, it’s important to follow the proper steps to ensure that the meals maintain their flavor, texture, and nutritional value.
By using the right containers, removing excess air, labeling your meals, freezing them flat, and thawing them properly, you can enjoy your Factor Meals even when you’re short on time.
By following these simple tips and best practices, you can ensure that your Factor Meals stay fresh and safe to eat for as long as possible. Proper storage not only helps you get the most out of your meals, but also keeps you and your family safe from foodborne illness.

Have a question about storing or freezing your meals from Factor Meals? Let me know in the comments!
Well done!
I ordered one week as a trial. I loved them! My problem is I can’t afford the regular price. I am 77 and I have pancreatic cancer. I live on only social security and have lots of assistance. Do you have any special programs for someone like me who loves you products?
Hey Linda, you may want to look into Magic Kitchen and Mom’s Meals. With both of those meal delivery services you can use insurance to cover costs.
Thanks so much for these tips!
You’re welcome!
Hi, so I put my factor meals straight into the freezer before I read that refrigeration was required; did I ruin my first order of meals? Am I able to still enjoy eating them?
Nope, not ruined! You can thaw them in the fridge and microwave or simply microwave them on medium heat for a bit longer.
How long does it take to defrost a factor meal in the microwave?
It generally takes around 5-7 minutes. I put it on “defrost” mode on our microwave.
Thanks for this article. Like one of the comments below I also froze some meals before reading this and I did so straight in the box they came in. Oops. Are they going to be ruined?
Second- I ate one yesterday and the sodium content is SO high for me. I went through their menu again and see they are all 700-800. I cook a lot for myself but am doing a remodel of ny kitchen so chose this option. Do factor meals have less sodium
Ooh one more question- I also find they are heavy on dairy yet I eat keto and high protein meals (as little dairy as possible). Starting to think factor is not for me with high sodium and lots of dairy. Any suggestions?
Thx
Hey DJ, I agree that the sodium content is a bit high for most folks (something I call out in my main review of Factor). There are some great low-sodium options out there but if you’re just looking for a better pre-made meal delivery service, I’d recommend looking into Cookunity or Territory Foods. Both are a bit more high quality than Factor (also slightly more expensive).
Can I vacuum seal the meals in their original container? If so, should I remove the plastic film first? Thanks
I want to provide make a gift of meals for 1 month for a friend who has had surgery. Can she select the meals? How do I go about making this gift?
