Being a vegetarian can sometimes be hard. More often than not, you can’t just drop by a restaurant and grab something to go. It takes some careful planning to adhere to your vegetarian dietary needs. These days, who has the time to go through all the effort to cook and eat three vegetarian meals per day? It can be exhausting. Not only that but it can also lead to some pretty boring and tasteless meals.
That’s where vegetarian meal delivery kits can help.
If you’ve found yourself looking for quick and healthy ways to stick to your vegetarian diet without breaking the bank, there are tons of vegetarian meal delivery services for you to choose from. How they work is pretty simple… You create an account, fill out your personal and dietary preferences, and they delivery meals right to your door. Some of them delivery ingredients and a recipe while others go as far as delivering pre-made vegetarian meals.
To help you find the right one for you, we’ve overviewed the best vegetarian meal services below…
1. Sun Basket
Sun Basket is an organic meal delivery service that focuses on sending its customers meals that are made with sustainable ingredients. They have four different meal plans—paleo, gluten-free, vegetarian, and family. Their vegetarian option is very popular (and for good reason). Not only are their meals delicious, their packaging is 100% recyclable and compostable. Not many meal delivery services go as far as they do with their efforts to be as green as possible.
In our review of Sun Basket, one of the things we loved most was the uniqueness of the recipes they sent. It wasn’t the same old recipes we’ve been accustomed to making. Also, they were super quick to make.
2. Blue Apron
Chances are pretty good that you’ve heard of Blue Apron before. They might be the most well-known meal delivery service in the world due to their advertising efforts. However, most people don’t know that they offer really great vegetarian options. To give you an example of the types of meals you can expect, here are some personal favorites:
- Crispy Gnocchi and Fontina Cheese Sauce
- Spinach and Two-Cheese Focaccia Pizzas
- Bok Choy and Sweet Pepper Lo Mein with Fried Eggs and Cashews
Their vegetarian meals are also fun and relatively simple to make. While tasty, they do require a little more prep time than some of the other vegetarian meal delivery services on this list.
3. Hello Fresh
Like Blue Apron, Hello Fresh is another incredibly popular meal delivery option for vegetarians. They work directly with independent producers/farmers to deliver their customers top-notch ingredients nationwide. In our review of Hello Fresh, we noticed that the ingredients were very high quality. Some families have even credited Hello Fresh with helping get their kids hooked on a vegetarian diet due to the delectable recipes they deliver.
One of my favorites from their “Veggie Menu” is the Garden Quesadillas made with Pico de Gallo and Chipotle Mayo. It sounds simple but the chipotle mayo combined with the cheese and pico de gallo come together and make a dish you’ll want to eat a hundred times over.
4. Marley Spoon
Marley Spoon has teamed up with Martha Stewart to bring people meals that are based on Martha’s own recipes. When you get Martha Stewart’s seal of approval, you know you’re getting quality. In our review, one of the things that stood out most was the fact that they had very easy-to-follow recipes cards. This might not seem like a big deal but when you’re cooking a meal that’s delivered to you, you’ll want to be able to easily follow along.
Some people follow a vegetarian diet because they’re looking to improve their health, slim down, or even just revitalize their body with better foods. If you’re one of those people, Diet-To-Go is a great option. They have four different meal delivery plans: Balance Menu, Balance Diabetes Menu, Carb30 Menu, and a Vegetarian Menu. The vegetarian plan is simply the “veggy” version of their incredibly popular Balance Menu. Beyond the fact that all of their vegetarian meals are healthy meal options, they are all pre-made. That means zero meal preparation is needed and very little cleanup is necessary. Once the meals are delivered, just pop them in the microwave and they’re ready to eat.
Known as one of the more popular vegan meal delivery services around, Veestro also works very well for vegetarians. Like Diet-To-Go, Veestro meals are delivered pre-made. This ends up saving you a lot of time and effort in the long run. When we reviewed Veestro we found their meals to be surprisingly tasty for being vegan. While these are plant-based meals made with no ingredients from animals, they didn’t taste bland at all. In fact, the flavor was on par with some of the top meal delivery services we’ve reviewed.
7. Purple Carrot
Purple Carrot, like Veestro, is another plant-based meal delivery service. However, they deliver ingredients and recipes rather than pre-made meals. One of the best things about Purple Carrot is the fact that they offer a pretty diverse selection to choose from. One of their new and popular plans is the “TB12 Performance Meals”, which were developed in conjunction with Tom Brady. These meals focus on delivering gluten-free, high protein meals for athletes and other physically active individuals.
If you’re looking for a vegetarian meal delivery service with a ton of variety, Chef’d is the perfect option. They currently have over 70 different vegetarian meals that you can choose from. Take one look at their meal options and you’ll see what makes Chef’d a top pick in our eyes…
- Mediterranean Penne with Sun-Dried Tomatoes and Parmesan Zucchini
- White Cheddar Mac n’ Cheese
- Classic “Beyond” Burger with Red Potato Salad
What makes Chef’d so different from the other meal delivery services out there today is the fact that they partner with tons of other brands to put together meals. For example, they have worked closely with Beyond Meat to bring their customers plant-based meats that cook, taste, and even look like real meat.
9. Home Chef
Overall, Home Chef is one of our favorite meal delivery services. Their meals are both healthy and easy to make. The vegetarian option is just as good, if not better, than their regular meal delivery service options. Unlike some of the other vegetarian meal delivery services out there, they don’t rely on recipes with a lot of gluten and carbs (which aren’t super healthy to eat all the time). Some example of meals you can expect are…
- White bean and butternut squash stew with pepitas and toasted ciabatta
- Avocado and tofu sushi bowl with carrots, cucumber, and spicy mayo
- Crispy goat cheese and arugula salad with candied pecans and honey vinaigrette
In our review, we found Home Chef to be one of the quickest to prep and cook. Our meals took about twenty minutes until they were ready to be eaten.
10. Terra’s Kitchen
When we first reviewed Terra’s Kitchen, our first reaction was, “This is the future of meal delivery.” Why? They send your ingredients in a super-insulated reusable vessel that keeps everything fresh and organized. While offering vegetarian options, Terra’s Kitchen meals all focus on the dietary principles of the Mediterranean lifestyle (colorful fruits and vegetables, nuts, and heart-healthy fats like olive oil and avocados).
If you’re looking to save time with your vegetarian meal kit, you probably don’t want to go with a meal delivery service where you need to cook the ingredients. You’re probably looking for a pre-made meal delivery service. In that case, Freshly is a great option. They work to source super high-quality ingredients and make delicious meals that are sent right to your doorstep. There meals aren’t just healthy and convenient but also incredibly sustainable. For example, they use recycled denim as an insulation, which is an eco-friendly alternative to styrofoam. The only downsides to going with Freshly is the fact that they don’t deliver everywhere yet and they have limited vegetarian options.
12. Green Chef
Green Chef is one of the more well-known healthy meal delivery options out there. They’ve been featured in big publications such as Real Simple, People, and BuzzFeed. They offer six different meal plans: Paleo, Vegan, Gluten-Free, Omnivore, Carnivore, and Vegetarian.
One of Green Chef’s main goals is to deliver fresh, organic, healthy, non-GMO foods that are free of antibiotics, steroids, etc. Their Vegetarian meal plan option offers much more than just salads. Here are a few tasty examples of what you can expect going with Green Chef:
- Green Pasta Bowl with artichokes, red pepper sauce, arugula, gremolata
- Lentil Chili with homemade rosemary cornbread, kidney beans, cheddar
- Mongolian Tofu with bok choy, mushrooms, snap peas & jasmine rice
While they don’t offer as big as a variety as some of the other meal delivery services on this list, they are very high quality vegetarian meals.
If you’re not looking for a full-on meal delivery service, there are still options available. Below you will find some vegetarian subscription services that don’t fall under the “meal” category but are some of our favorites nonetheless.
Smoothies are one of the best quick and easy ways to grab healthy food on the go. Daily Harvest is a smoothie subscription service that delivers you pre-frozen smoothie cups that are ready to blend. Just take them out of the freezer, blend, and you’re ready to drink. What we love about Daily Harvest is the variety that they offer customers. Some of the smoothies sound too crazy to work but they actually taste amazing. For example, their mint and cacao smoothie tastes just like mint chip ice cream.
So much fruit and veggies that are deemed “ugly” by grocery stores is thrown away. This creates tons of food waste. Imperfect Produce is doing something about all that waste by buying that so called “ugly” fruit from grocers and reselling it at a deep discount. There is nothing wrong with the fruit or vegetables they sell. They just don’t look normal so they’re much less likely to get picked by shoppers. Imperfect Produce will send you a box of fruits and vegetables every two weeks.
